Issue Position: ITEP (Tax Exemption Program)

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2019

I support the recently updated state laws that allow local taxing authorities to approve or deny tax breaks for multinational corporations.
ITEP, over a 10-year period, has cost municipal and parish authorities more than $16billion in property taxes that otherwise would have funded schools, law enforcement, and other local services. (Source: Together Louisiana)
I support business development incentives and friendlier state departmental policies for Louisiana-based, locally owned small businesses and cooperatives in our state.
The term "small business" is defined by the federal Small Business Administration, and considers the number of employees, annual receipts, number/size of affiliates, and NAICS code. (Source: Small Business Size Standards, SBA.gov)
"A cooperative is in its simplest sense is formed when individuals organize together around a common, usually economic, goal. For business purposes, a cooperative refers to the creation of a nonprofit enterprise for the benefit of those individuals using its services" and for the workers who own/operate the cooperative together.
